Sort and organize used sports equipment by quality and category, reorganize shelves/inventory, and occasionally, assemble donations at Leveling the Playing Field. Leveling the Playing Field provides donations of used and excess sporting equipment to programs and schools serving low-income communities.
Help with sorting and sizing clothing donations at Sharp Dressed Man. Sharp Dressed Man provides men in workforce programs throughout Baltimore with professional clothing for interviews.
Cover English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for adult asylum seekers and human trafficking survivors when primary teachers are unavailable at Asylee Women Enterprise. Volunteers should be comfortable working with adult English language learners, but do not need to speak a foreign language. Lesson plans will already be provided by Asylee Women Enterprise. Asylee Women Enterprise provides legal services, support/advocacy, healthcare services, employment training, classes, and more to forced migrants and those seeking asylum in Maryland.
Provide much-needed technological support to seniors in the community. Comprehensive Housing Assistance, Inc. (CHAI) aims to strengthen neighborhoods with a significant Jewish presence by developing and enhancing housing, affecting community development, and supporting aging-in-community. Northwest Neighbors Connecting (NNC) is a member-led community of active, creative, and independent adults who connect with and care for one another.
Accompany patients who are 60 or older and/or with disabilities to appointments at St. Agnes Hospital. Chaperones will travel with patient (living within a 5–10-mile range of hospital) to appointments using rideshare apps like Lyft.
Tutor a student or adult with dyslexia or other language- based learning disability.
Dyslexia Tutoring Program provides tutoring support for low-income children and adults who are dyslexic or have a language-based learning disability.
Volunteers are needed to assist with homework help for reading, writing, and math for all grade levels at several of Living Classrooms’ community centers. Instructors are also highly needed for the following skills: swimming, dancing, financial literacy, STEM, cursive writing, Spanish, and more! Living Classrooms provides access to more equitable education, workforce development, health and wellness, and community opportunities, enabling individuals to achieve their goals and build safer, stronger, healthier communities.
Assist with Ukrainian refugee resettlement efforts through HandsBridge. HandsBridge provides immediate assistance to Ukrainian refugees, helping navigate the legal/government system and by securing housing, employment, clothing, and more.
Provide respite and companionship for hospice, home care, and residential patients (and their families) at Gilchrist Center. Other opportunities include meal delivery, administrative tasks, grief support, friendly calling/visiting, etc. Gilchrist Center provides care, support, and counseling to those experiencing serious, end of life illnesses in Baltimore City and Baltimore, Carroll, Howard, Frederick, and Harford Counties.
Assist house management with ticket collection and scanning, seating of audience members, and other duties during the performance. The Gordon Center for Performing Arts is an entertainment venue located on the campus of the Owings Mills JCC.
Assist with different animal care, cleaning, and office tasks at the Maryland SPCA. Maryland SPCA aims to protect animals and teaches proper care of animals through different programs.
Help with ongoing visual arts classes, community art projects, and finishing art pieces at Art with a Heart. Art with a Heart provides access to visual and creative arts to various Baltimore City populations.
