8 Things to Do This Fall With Your Family

By Rachel Pototsky & Abbi Sacks

Two of our staff members, Rachel Pototsky and Abbi Sacks, love finding fun things to do in our area. Especially things that are family friendly! With the weather getting a bit chillier, it can be harder to find exciting things to do together. Check out this list of both outdoor and indoor activities that could be fun for your family!

Here’s 8 fun activities to do with the entire family this fall:

The Maryland Zoo

The Maryland Zoo is always a fun time! This fall, they may have fun fall activities or decorations, AND it’s a bit cooler so animals might be more active! If you have some extra time, head to the National Zoo in D.C. Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute Admission is free! Can’t make it to the zoo, try these live cams!

The Farmer’s Market

Check out a farmers market and shop local!  Check out this list, but please note the dates as some have already closed for the season!

Hiking

Looking to enjoy the outdoors before a Maryland winter hits us? Try hiking! Here is a general list, but please feel free to look into different locations and trails! Lake Roland, Towson; Oregon Ridge, Cockeysville; Cromwell Valley, Parkville; Gunpowder State Park, multiple trails in Northeast Baltimore County;  Soldiers Delight, Reisterstown. On your drive, make sure to look out the window to see the foliage changing! Looking to drive out of state? Harper’s Ferry is on the border of MD and WV, about an hour and a half drive! The peak of the mountain gives great views of the Potomac River, the mountains, and a cool bridge!

Nature Scavenger Hunt

Go on a nature scavenger hunt in your neighborhood- be on the lookout for different kinds of leaves, acorns, pinecones, bird watching, etc. Ask your kids if they notice the different colors of the leaves, different textures, or other things they may notice.

Baking

Bake on a cozy day! Here are some of our favorite fall recipes: apple pie, pumpkin pie, fall shaped sugar cookies, caramel apples – pick all of your favorite toppings!

Movies

Want a cozy night inside with the whole family? Watch fall movies- November’s ’30 Days of Disney’ Schedule, pop some popcorn, add your favorite chocolate candy for some melted chocolate fun.

Make a Bonfire

Enjoy the warmth of a bonfire and make s’mores. Have you heard of this new savory s’more trend? Try putting a piece of cheese on a skewer over the fire and use two regular crackers instead of graham.

Family Paint Night

Have you seen the viral trend of painting and then swapping canvases? We love this idea! Every 10 minutes, swap paintings with your family to make masterpieces together! This can be a great way to teach not only creativity, but sharing and being flexible! Who can add the silliest, wackiest picture to the painting?
