Celebrating Local Women’s Organizations

In honor of International Women’s Day, we take a moment to recognize the incredible organizations in Baltimore that uplift, support, and empower women. From Jewish community groups fostering leadership and connection to service organizations providing critical resources, these groups make a lasting impact on women’s lives. We encourage you to get involved, donate, or learn more about these organizations for a meaningful way to support and celebrate women in our community.
Jewish Community Organizations
Baltimore is home to many Jewish organizations that create spaces for women to lead, connect and contribute.
- Synagogue Sisterhoods
- Hadassah: Hadassah creates leadership opportunities for women, supports life-saving care in the US, Israel, and across the world, and helps to sustain a vibrant Jewish state: Hadassah: The Women’s Zionist Organization of America – Jewish Connection Network
- Associated Women: Encouraging philanthropy and leadership, Associated Women empowers women through giving societies and Jewish Professional Women, which fosters career growth and community engagement.
- Jewish Women’s Giving Foundation: This group empowers women to be funders and decision-makers, distributing grants to organizations serving women and children in Baltimore.
- Momentum: A transformative journey for mothers raising Jewish children, providing personal growth, connection, and a deeper engagement with Israel. Join The Network’s trip this November!
- Covenant Guild: Originally founded as a social organization for women, Covenant Guild continues its legacy of philanthropy and volunteerism.
- Federation of Jewish Women’s Organizations of Maryland: An umbrella group advocating for issues of concern, leadership training, and supporting the greater Baltimore Jewish community.
Service Partners Supporting Women
Baltimore is also home to many nonprofit organizations providing essential services to women and families in need. The Network offers many volunteer opportunities listed below.
- My Sister’s Place: A day program in Mount Vernon, Baltimore City, for women and children experiencing homelessness and poverty.
- Hannah More Family Shelter: A 24/7, comprehensive, short-term shelter for families in Baltimore County. Hannah More serves up to 85 families and offers support services for those transitioning to permanent housing. Want to learn more? E-mail Kate at kkirby@thejewishnetwork.org
- Sarah’s Hope Family Shelter: A 24/7, comprehensive, short-term shelter for families in Baltimore City. Sarah’s Hope serves up to 145 families and offers support services for those transitioning to permanent housing. Want to learn more? E-mail Kate at kkirby@thejewishnetwork.org
- Helping Up Mission- Women and Children’s Center: A comprehensive shelter in the Jonestown neighborhood of Baltimore City for women and children experiencing homelessness, and/or poverty.
- DRUM Healthy Families, Inc.: A home visiting program for pregnant & postnatal women and their children in East and West Baltimore.
- Girl’s Empowerment Mission (GEM) – through Living Classrooms: Provides resources, growth opportunities, and mentoring to empower motivated high school girls, enabling them to become self-sufficient, confident, and independent.
- Dignity Grows: Provides supplies of menstrual and feminine hygiene items to women and girls in need. Dignity Grows works with local organizations to distribute supplies and reduce obstacles around period poverty.
- ShareBaby: Provides diapers and essential items to Baltimore’s most vulnerable young children.
- Asylee Women Enterprise: Provides support and immigration/legal assistance for forced migrants, refugee and asylum seekers, and human trafficking survivors in Baltimore.
International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate progress and take action to support women in our community. Whether through volunteering, donating, or spreading awareness, there are countless ways to uplift the organizations making a difference. Explore these groups, find causes that resonate with you, and contribute to building a stronger, more supportive Baltimore for all women.
